I am always doing research for the Nappier Family, it is my surname.

(Hugh Calvin) H.C. Nappier was my Great Great GreatGrandfather.

He was a Civil War veteran, he fought in Capt. Jon W. Brooks' Company, Terrell Light Artillery, Georgia Volunteers.

He enlisted on Sept. 12, 1861 in Columbus, GA and discharge on April 28, 1865. He was a cannoneer and was wounded in the leg during the Battle of Savannah, GA when recoil from the 12lb. Napoleon he was manning rolled up his leg putting him in a battlefield hospital for a time, but returned to his unit after healing. He walked with a limp and cane when he got older.

Sometime after the war he moved to Clay County, Alabama as proved in the 1870 Census. According to Census records he was indeed born in Tennessee. He became a preacher and was licensed to marry people in Alabama as he did until the day he died. Two of them being James T. Love and Mary C. Grizzle.

As for Mary Anna Nappier, your grandfather's mother, I am not sure how these two are kin. I know that H.C. Nappier had a daughter named Mary Susan (she went by Susan when she got older) and another younger daughter named Cary Ann. However both where born in ALABAMA. Could there be a chance that your Mary Anna is really Cary Ann?

I am also told and have record some where that H.C. Nappier first wife whom he was married to during the Civil War died from some sort of disease young, Her name was Mary, but don't know if it was just Mary or Mary Anna and to my knowledge they didn't have any children either. H.C. Nappier remarried after the war to Lourenia, but do not know her maden name. She was 10 years younger than H.C., they had 7 children, 3 girls, 4 boys, one of the boys Tilman S. Nappier is my Great GreatGrandfather, he also was a preacher, but it stopped with him as far as the Preaching goes for the family...LOL.

I hope some of this helps, lets try and help each other because my trail runs little cold prior to H.C. Nappier's parents and before.

Grady Gill, 71 of Madison, passed away October 26, 2013 while engaging in one of his favorite pastimes, gardening in his backyard.

Mr. Gill was born June 2, 1942 to Thurman Northern and Sadie Williams Gill of Millerville, Ala. On June 2, 1963 he married his high school sweetheart Glynn Smith. The following year he graduated from Auburn University and immediately moved to Madison to accept a position at Pennington Seed. Over the last 49 years Mr. Gill was a member of the Lions Club, served on the boards of DeKalb Technical College and Athens Technical College, the Morgan Memorial Hospital Authority and was a supporter of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. Mr. Gill remained active at Pennington until his death.

Aside from gardening Mr. Gill enjoyed fishing, playing tennis and watching wild birds. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Nearly every Sunday you could find "Papa" enjoying dinner at the Mexican restaurant with his grandkids.

Mr. Gill is survived by his wife, Glynn Gill and two sons Chanin and Sloan Gill and Julie, his grandchildren, Allison, Everitt, Sam and Ben and two step grandchildren Justin and Jordan; a sister Betty Jean and brothers James, Darrill and Gerald and his mother-in-law Berlie Robinson Dick. He also leaves many close friends and his Pennington Seed Family. Mr. Gill was laid to rest Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Madison City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in honor of Grady Gill: Madison-Morgan Cultural Center 434 South Main Street Madison, Georgia 30650 A. E. An era in the history of Talladega's legal community came to an end Wednesday evening with the passing of attorney Huel McKinnley Love Sr., 82, at his residence. Love opened his practice in Talladega County in 1949, and appeared in court for the last time the day he died.

Funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Parkway Assembly of God with his son, the Rev. John Love, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Elmore County, Love grew up in Clay County but lived in Talladega for the past 55 years. He graduated from Bibb Graves High School and the University of Alabama Law School.

In addition to practicing law since 1949, he served as an Alabama State Bar Commissioner for two terms, and was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association for 50 years. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 130, a founding member of Fairpark Baptist Church, and helped to found Parkway Assembly of God, where attended until he died. He was the founding partner of the Love Law Firm.

Love is survived by his wife, Betty C. Love of Talladega; five daughters, Alice Fay Love of Birmingham, Virginia Paige Smith of Atlanta, Carla Ann Tinney of Talladega; D. Leigh Love of Helena, and Julie Love Templeton of Tuscaloosa; four sons, Fred. F. Ledbetter Jr. of Birmingham, Huel M. Love Jr. of Talladega, the Rev. John Hugh Love of Talladega and Jason L. Love of Nashville; one sister, Edna Pitts; one nephew, Huel "Jimmy" Pitts of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Latisha Ledbetter, Colton Ledbetter, Cortney Smith, Huel M. "Tres" Love III, Zachary Cotton Love, Joshua Tony, Jason Tony, Jerry Whitten Jr., Heather Molsbee, Jackie Strickland, Tyler Love, Melissa Love and Caleb Love; and nine great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Talladega County Bar Association, Lyndol Bolton, L.M. Veazey Jr., Harold Howell, Alfred C. Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, Charlie Jackson Sr., and Charlie Jackson Jr.

TALLADEGA COUNTY - Talladega County Circuit Judge Julian King announced Tuesday flags in front of the judicial building will fly at half staff today through Friday to honor the memories of Betty Love and Ralph Gaines, attorneys who practiced law in the county for many years. Both passed away this week.

Of Love, King said, "She was the original pioneer for female attorneys in Talladega County. She broke into a male dominated profession and led the way for many other females to follow her lead into this profession. She had great passion and drive in representing her many clients. Most importantly, she was instrumental in promoting the Alabama Teen Challenge Program in this county. That program is one of the best for drug and alcohol treatment, and Betty understood the necessity of treating the problems of addiction to break the cycle of criminal activity. She regularly appeared before me with defendants seeking alcohol or drug treatment, and in the majority of those cases, she was not even the attorney of record. She was receiving no monetary compensation for standing up there with those people. She did it for humanitarian purposes, with the hope of an individual turning their life around and becoming a productive member of society. The legal community will miss her."
