* Birth: 1590 in

* Note: This link is
not proven but based on investigations and research by several Galbraith and Gilbreath researchers. It is recorded that various branches
of the Galbraith family were sent to Ireland before migrating to Virginia,
Massachusetts, and the Carolinas. According to one source, Robert and three of
his brothers, Humphrey, William and John moved from Sterling County Scotland to
Donegal County Ireland about 1615. Some of the brothers used the name Galbreath, other Galbraith. In the early days, the spelling
of ones last name was unimportant and it was spelled more than one way but was
pronounced the same. There are instances where a person spelled his family name
two or three different ways in the same hand written document.

Bill Watkins, direct Deceased of James)
James Galbraith born in
the North of Ireland emigrated to the US in 1718 and settled in what was then
Conestoga, afterwards, Donegal township, then Chester county, Province of
Pennsylvania. He was one of the founders of old Derry church, a man of
prominence, and the head of a remarkable family. He died August 23, 1744, and
is buried in the old graveyard at Derry. His tombstone is inscribed "Here lieth the remains of James Galbraith who departed this life
ye 23d August1744 aged 78 years". He was the first of our Clan Galbraith to
begin the Great Westward Migration.
Nothing is known of James Galbraith, prior
to his arrival in America. Even after arriving in Pennsylvania the information
is very scanty and most of what we know is more through the records of his
children, than actual knowledge of his own deeds. Since James was 52 years old
when he arrived in Pennsylvania and since he was not among the group identified
as first purchasers, we must assume that he belonged to that group which left
their homeland, family and friends to find freedom and religious tolerance in a
new country. To know that his new life was a success we need only to look at
his children, who helped form the character of America. He brought with him,
his wife Rebecca Chambers, daughter of Arthur Chambers, and his sons John
Andrew, and James all born in Ireland, John about 1690, Andrew born in 1692.
and James born in 1703.

daughter of JAMES KYLE. She was born
1688 in Tyrone Co. , North of Ireland, and died 1740 in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania.
Notes for ANDREW GALBRAITH:
There are several
pages about Andrew Galbraith on Rootsweb.com, and his accomplishments and the Galbreath's in Pennsylvania, provided by Kyles, Mogg And Associated Families!
If you need help let me know! Andrew immigrated from Ireland to America with
his wife and Parents in 1718 - and settled in what later became Lancaster
County Pa.. He became the first coroner in Lancaster county (in 1729) and held
a number of other offices, culminating with several years service in the
Provincial Assembly.
Andrew helped organize
the county and was the first county coroner: he also held the offices of
Justice of the peace of the court of common pleas, Representative to the
General Assembly, and Justice of the Peace, as well as serving several years in
the Provincial Assembly.
He was one of the
first Ruling Elders of the Old Donegal Church. The Galbraiths
were originally from Scotland but they had lived for some time in Ireland
before emigrating to America, and while there they had taken on some of the
attributes of this culture. This was especially true in the case of Andrew. He
had not only the somber deliberate ways of the Highland Scots, but also the
ebullient enthusiasm and charm of a true son of Blarney. This combination he
put to good use in his new home on the frontier, which he established on Little
Chicques creek, a short distance below the point where
the Mount Joy and Marietta turnpike crosses the Donegal run. He was also a
pious man and a staunch member of the Presbyterian Church. Andrew was the first
ruling elder, selected the site for the first building, and without doubt held
services on many occasions, as the first Pastor was a Reverend James Anderson,
who received a call from the Donegal Church in 1726. In 1730 the original log
structure was replaced by a building of rough
stone laid in mortar.
The influence of the Donegal Church was felt far beyond the
confines of Lancaster
County and became the nursery of Presbyterianism in a
large part of
Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
John was one of the
largest, if not the largest landowner in Lancaster County. His first
acquisition was for 1000 acres about 10 miles south of the present City of
Lancaster.

with men from Pike, Barbour, Dale, Coffee, and Henry counties. The regiment
served under General Clanton in the Department of the Gulf and was on duty at
Mobile and Pollard until January, 1864. It then was assigned to General Scott's

Notes for JOHN CLIFFORD ADKISSON, JR.:
Dear friends,
Just a note to let you
know that I am behind of my e-mail's . I
had two strokes 6/24/08 I was having lunch with my son at our favorite Mexican
Restaurant. When all of a sudden I did
not feel so good. My son immediately
took me to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta
Georgia. The Doctor there was on his
toes. He immediately started
medicine. He said that if anyone had a
stroke and they could get to the hospital within three hours that this medicine
could be administered and possible would help greatly. At first the stroke was on my right side it
was very severe then all of a sudden I had another stroke on my left side. I was in the hospital from 6/24/08 through
7/8/08 I got home yesterday. I feel
pretty good but it is going to take time to get back to my normal self. . Also
my sister Mary Nell was getting her blood transfusion on 6/27/08 when all of a
sudden she had problems also. She stayed
in the hospital from 6/27/08 through 7/8/08
I got home shortly after noon and she got home around 4 PM. We are both very thankful that things turned
out alright. Although Mike had to try and
help both of us. He has been a God's
Blessing to both of us. I don't know
what we would have done if we had not had him to help us out.
