Aunt Mattie’s 100th Birthday Party

On Sunday May 25, 2003 about one hundred friends and relative's joined together at Aunt Mattie's residence at 1750 Allison Mill Road, Talladega Alabama. The Baptist Church across the street had planned a potluck to help celebrate the occasion!! There was food galore! It was my understanding that Aunt Mattie and Uncle Wilbern Love, were founding members of the Church. A gospel trio sang several gospel favorites. They had known Aunt Mattie for a long time! After a short break her Grandson Kenney and friends sang several folk ballads for her. After about two hours she was getting tired and the crowd was invited across the street to hear another Grandson play the piano! Her son Huel shared that the birthday party had kept her going, and that she was praying to go home soon, she had lived long enough and was looking forward to seeing her family that had gone on before! And so we may have hugged her neck for the last time? But she has enriched all the lives of those around her, so none of us want her to linger and suffer!

Aunt Mattie, Son Huel Love, Nephew Reginald Robershaw, and friend at the Party!! Huel has faithfully cared for his Mom over the years, Reggie has faithfully called Aunt Mattie on Sunday afternoon’s from Ca. to talk with her over the last couple of years!!
